Lenten Lectures - "A Lenten Journey – J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion"

Date:
3/13/2019 at 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM

Event Description

Please join us for a meditation on Christ's passion as seen through the eyes of Bach in his St. Matthew Passion. You will be changed. These Lenten Lectures will be held on all four Wednesdays in March at 12:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. If interested or for more information please contact Dr. Lucinda Sloan at 727.480.5655.

"J.S. Bach composed his masterpiece The St. Matthew Passion for his congregation at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig for the Good Friday, April 11, 1727 service. The complete text of Chapters 26 and 27 are set to music along with meditative solos, chorales and choruses. Bach, a Lutheran through and through, believed that we must enter the passion story actively and realize, as in the words of Luther 'When you see the nails piercing Christ's hands, you must be certain that it is your work.'"
